A subspecies of tuna the Yellowfin tuna are found in the tropical and subtropical waters present worldwide. It is one amongst the largest tuna species found and its size stays around 180 kg. This fish gets its name from the fact that its second dorsal and anal fin, as well as the finlets and tail, are all yellow in colour.
In fact, its second dorsal and anal fins are pretty long and reach till the end of its tail. Yellowfin tuna is actually an epipelagic fish and can be seen occupying the upper surface layer of the ocean. Although the fish is often found in the insides of the ocean if they find conducive conditions they might move close to the shore. You would often find yellowfin tuna travelling in schools of similar sized fish.
Yellowfin tuna eats or predates on other fish, crustaceans and squid. Their body is quite flexible and capable of racing at a fast speed thus they can easily prey on fish like mackerel, flying fish etc. Though they themselves can be preyed upon by bigger fishes like larger tunas and seabirds their speed works in their favour and saves them.
